The European Secularist Network is deeply shocked by the aggression against Ukraine by the Russian Federation and the suffering of the Ukrainian people.
The ESN strongly condemns this flagrant violation of human rights, this clear act of war, this brutal invasion of a sovereign country.
We call on everyone to help in whatever way they can, so that the suffering of the victims is alleviated as much as possible. Anyone can help.
In almost two weeks of conflict, two million people have already fled Ukraine, leaving everything behind. Faced with this massive influx of refugees, secularists have a duty to show their solidarity in concrete terms.
The network’s member organisations have launched appeals for donations, which will be given to two Polish grassroots organisations that it is calling on to support financially:
– On the one hand, Polish Humanitarian Action which is one of the largest and oldest Polish non-governmental organisations, active in Ukraine since 2014
– and on the other hand, Fundacja Ocalenie, which is smaller but very present in the field and which recently distinguished itself by its support to refugees crossing the Polish-Belarusian border.
Donations can be made to the accounts created for the occasion by the network’s member associations, or directly to the two NGOs mentioned. Both NGOs are associations based on secular ethics, and have been heavily criticised by the national-conservative government in the recent past.
