On 16 November 2024, the writer Boualem Sansal was arrested at Algiers airport by the Algerian authorities. Since then, he has been held in completely arbitrary conditions. He has been denied the assistance of his lawyer, François Zimeray, who was refused a visa by the Algerian government.
While he is facing life imprisonment, his friends and supporters are concerned about his precarious state of health and are calling on the Algerian authorities to show humanity by releasing him.
The European Secularist Network, which is committed to the freedom of conscience and freedom of expression enjoyed by Boualem Sansal, denounces the denial of justice that imprisoning him for his opinions constitutes.
The European Secularist Network calls for the immediate release of Boualem Sansal.
